Stephanie's YLAA Journey

Finding my Identity as a Landscape Architect was not easy. Living in the Philippines where the profession is relatively young, Landscape Architecture is barely practiced. The Philippines is a third world country where the costs of living is greater than the earning wages of the average joe. Young professionals such as myself struggle with our choices. Passion or Money? The practicality of the real word which our institutions have failed to notify us of. Once I stepped out of the comforts of my university as a fresh graduate, I felt lost.

I felt lost until I found the right fit. I started working at Plontur, Inc. with its design director, Frederick Yambao. Plontur has helped me understand design and its impact to the community as a young professional. It has helped me broaden my understanding of Landscape Architecture as a collaborative process. I have worked with different professionals in the field of architecture, interior design, horticulture, business, and graphic design. Learning from these different professionals opened the discussion for Landscape Architecture as a solution and not an afterthought.

There is much hope for Landscape Architecture to change the way people live. Landscape Design is constantly changing. It changes with necessity. As young professionals, a call has been made on our names. The challenge is always to answer it.
